The Aberdare Boutique Lodge is a subsidiary of Kenya Puxin Renewable Energy Co. Ltd., operating in Kenya. The proposed boutique lodge included putting up modern touristic accommodation facilities, a lounge, a dining room, staff quarters, a parking lot, and other supporting amenities such as a sanitation system. The EIA served to determine, analyze, and present the environmental impacts (positive and negative) of a proposed development project and associated infrastructure, formulate remedial measures to minimize and mitigate the negative impacts, and plan in such a way that enables a rational decision to be made regarding the implementation and management of the proposed project. This EIA was to further contribute to the reduction or mitigation of adverse impacts by generating a number of project alternatives for the proposed lodge development. In general, the purpose of the EIA was to anticipate, prevent, minimize, and/or manage the potentially significant negative impacts of development.

The company is passionate about the sustainability of forest lands in the region and has developed South Sudan’s most advanced nursery and replanting scheme. Our firm was sub-contracted by Centric Africa Limited to undertake the environmental and social assessments (ESA); and environmental and social management systems (ESMS) with a special focus on IFC PS6 and risk assessments following the EDFI risk categorization guidelines. The main objectives of the assignment were to strengthen the company's ESMS for effective management and mitigation of operational and reputational risks, improve the company's understanding of site conditions and project-related environmental and social risks and opportunities in Western Equatoria State; and demonstrate high level environmental and social performance as a key business strategy to access higher value consumer markets for teak and other products.

Rubis Energy Kenya (formerly Kenol Kobil PLC) is a leading oil and gas products company in Kenya with over 200 gas stations and depots in different locations across the country. In compliance with the environmental legislations and guidelines on hydrocarbon businesses, the company commissions annual environmental, health and safety (EHS) audits to assess the performance of each facility. The findings are then submitted to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) in Kenya. Each year, for a period of six years (2014–2020), our firm was retained to undertake annual EHS audits for an average of 100 gas and depots stations per year, spread across different regions in Kenya.

The Samburu County Government intended to build a state-of-the-art abattoir at Nomotio (near Maralal, Samburu County), with support from the European Union and the National Government. The overall objective of the project was to establish a modern abattoir to process meat products for local and international markets. Directly linked to the overall objective are specific objectives that included: promoting sustainable livestock production; processing competitively Samburu branded high quality and disease-free meat and meat products for local consumption and external markets; promoting value addition of livestock by-products, specifically bones, blood, hides and skins; and enhancing the capacity of key value chain actors in the livestock sub-sector. Ameken Minewest Company Limited is incorporated in Kenya as an energy investment company. The company sought to meet the growing demand of LPG consumers in Githurai (Nairobi County) and the surrounding environs by establishing an LPG storage and filling plant with a capacity of 2000 cubic metres on LR No. 27/Mwihoti/Githurai, Nairobi County. The proposed development activities mainly involved civil, mechanical, and electrical works associated with the installation of the LPG tank and filling point and, thereafter, operations of the facilities. The main activities to be carried out in the development of the proposed project include excavations or earthworks, installation of the tank and pump, and pipe works. The main objective of the assignment was to assist the company in preparing an EIA study of the LPG storage and filling plant and to ensure the proposed development takes into consideration appropriate measures to mitigate any adverse impacts on the environment. The Government of the Republic of Kenya (GoK), through the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, and Urban Development (MoTIHUD), with the support of the International Development Association (IDA), is a key participant in the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HOAGDP), involving the upgrading of sections of the Isiolo-Mandera Road to bitumen, implemented by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA). The proposed project development objectives were to improve the movement of goods and people along the Isiolo-Wajir-Mandera part of the Mombasa-Garissa-Wajir-Mandera-Mogadishu road corridor and to enhance connectivity between Kenya and Somalia and Ethiopia. Our firm was contracted to undertake a detailed baseline biodiversity study along the proposed road alignment, including the nearby Borji and Lorian swamps, habitat categorization, identification and mapping of the impacts on species and habitats, and the development of a biodiversity management plan (BMP) to manage (avoid, reduce, mitigate, compensate) and monitor the potential impacts of the planned road construction and operation with the goal of maintaining or improving the ecological integrity along the proposed road alignment. Rubis Energy Kenya (formerly Kenol Kobil PLC) is a leading oil and gas products company in Kenya with over 200 gas stations and depots in different locations across the country. In compliance with the occupation safety and health legislation and guidelines, the company commissions annual occupational safety and health audits to assess the performance of each facility. The findings are then submitted to the Directorate of Occupational Safety & Health in Kenya. Each year, for a period of four years (2016–2020), our firm was retained to undertake annual occupational safety and health audits of an average of 100 gas and depots stations per year, spread across different regions in Kenya.

The Occupational safety and health challenges associated with irrigation projects need to be addressed regularly because the occupational accidents, diseases and ill health associated with irrigation agriculture are likely to bring down the production due to loss of working hours and high medical expenses incurred. The National Irrigation Authority operates several irrigation schemes in western Kenya, including: Ahero, Bunyala, Katilu, Maugo, Perkerra and West Kano Irrigation Schemes. In compliance with the occupation safety and health legislation and guidelines, the NIA commissioned an annual occupational safety and health audits to assess the performance of each schemes. The findings were then submitted to the Directorate of Occupational Safety & Health in Kenya. Our firm was subcontracted by ICPHER Consultants Co. Ltd. to undertake annual occupational safety and health audits of the seven irrigation schemes in western Kenya.

The Kenya Livestock Marketing Council (KLMC) is a membership organization that promotes livestock production and marketing in Kenya. The Kenya Livestock Marketing Council initiated a co-management model for livestock markets in nine counties in Kenya. The underlying rationale was based on the recognition of the need for sharing responsibility and authority in livestock marketing between the County Councils and the local communities represented by local marketing associations. The need to evaluate the performance of the model was necessary. Our firm was retained to undertake the monitoring and evaluation of the model and give recommendations going forward on the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. A total of 17 livestock markets implementing co-management in 9 counties of ASAL in Kenya were assessed and reviewed for their relevance, effectiveness, best practices, efficiency, impact, and sustainability of the model; and to ascertain if the management model delivered the intended benefits and ultimately explore opportunities for improvement.

Northern Kenya is a water scarce region in the country, and continues to experience water deficiencies that are often exacerbated by the effects of climate change. Investment in water infrastructure has been prioritized by all the counties in northern Kenya under the stewardship of the Ewaso Ng’iro North Development Authority (ENNDA). The ENNDA’s mandate is to plan, co-ordinate and implement development projects and programmes, in the Ewaso Ng’iro North basin and catchment areas, and had undertaken water infrastructure development and rehabilitation in northern Kenya to determine the success and challenges of the rehabilitation activities, there was a need to undertake monitoring and evaluation, especially in Isiolo, Laikipia, Nyandarua, and Nyeri counties. Our firm was retained to undertake the monitoring and evaluation of all the water infrastructure development projects spread across the four counties.
